So she managed in a short six years, as the only woman on a 15-member board, to move the notoriously unscrupulous company to include "more women in management" and start "a comprehensive environmental program".
But, according to The Times, clearly the focus here must be on how she never talks about it.
Well, Times, I'm glad you brought this up, because as far as I can tell, you've managed to unearth perhaps the finest accomplishment of Hillary Clinton's career. She's crazy not to run on this.
The Gun-toting Liberal has a different take on this very strange article:
Hmm. I gotta say, Gun-toting Liberal is right to be suspicious of the presentation of this article. The press has become such an unreliable basket case in the last few years that a double-secret, undercover, spin-disguised-as-anti-spin technique could well be in play.
Obvious to anybody who reads the entire article is the fact that The NYT along with The Washington Post (click HERE to read the proof) wants Senator Clinton to be our next President Of The United States Of America. Mr. Barbaro blatantly apologizes for Hillary’s decision to stay zip-lipped for the entire six years she served as a so-called “sole liberal” on the BoD of Wally-World. “She championed this; she championed that; she couldn’t touch labor issues because of this, that and that” doesn’t get her ANYWHERE with me.
The fact is, this woman served on the BoD for six years and did not do a damned THING to help end the ongoing employee abuses by China’s number one customer and that is INEXCUSABLE as far as I am concerned. Thanks to Senator Clinton’s inaction, inability, or blatant refusal to protect some of America’s most abused, yet, hardest workers; these practices continue today with little progress at Wally-World and many of the nation’s other giant retailers. Sadly, she COULD have made a difference if she would have actually CARED enough to do so. Thanks for NOTHING, Senator Clinton.
I disagree with my gun-toting friend on the idea that somehow Senator Clinton would be able to change Wal-Mart's practice of using slave labor. If she had managed that, she should be elected Queen for Life, because without that labor, there is no Wal-Mart (I know, it sounds good to me too). This is one of the limitations of trying to change things for the better from the inside.
By the way something, Hillary Clinton is seriously having an online poll to select her campaign music. I'm all about "Right Here, Right Now" by Jesus Jones. Those other songs kinda blow. Largehearted Boy is having their own contest, suggestions in the comments thread, over there please.
