House Dems Defy Bush on Immunity
Yesterday President Bush again called on House Democrats to renew the Protect America Act with language that would provide immunity to telecom companies that helped spy on Americans. "Should those who stepped forward to say we're going to help defend America," President Bush said, "have to go to the courthouse to defend themselves, or should the Congress and the president say thank you for doing your patriotic duty? I believe we ought to say thank you."
He's not going to be very happy when he hears that not only are House Democrats refusing to cave on telecom immunity, but the new draft of the resolution would make it easier for courts to hear classified material relevant to hypothetical cases brought against telecom companies.
