What was it that happened the last time Keyes crossed paths with Senator Obama? Oh, I remember, Obama kicked his ass, then Keyes showed how classy he wasn't by refusing to congratulate Obama.
From The Chicago Tribune November 5, 2004:
CHICAGO -- Two days after his record loss in the U.S. Senate race, Republican Alan Keyes conceded defeat during a radio interview Thursday. But he said he would never congratulate the winner, Barack Obama, because the Democrat stood for "a culture evil enough to destroy the very soul and heart of my country."Anywho, Keyes isn't the only powermad goofball aspiring to positions far beyond their ability level--Chris Matthews is flirting with a run for Senate against Arlen Specter. Well, maybe it'll keep him off the TV for a few months.
Keyes sounded a defiant note Tuesday night when he addressed supporters but then dropped from public view after losing to Obama 70 percent to 27 percent, the biggest margin ever in an Illinois U.S. Senate race.
He resurfaced Thursday during a phone interview on WYLL-AM, a Christian talk station in Chicago. In the interview, Keyes blamed his poor showing on other Republicans and the media.
He reminded listeners that throughout his campaign he had said he was "engaged in a battle between good and evil." Because of that, he said, he did not feel that he could congratulate Obama.
"I'm supposed to make a call that represents the congratulations toward that which I believe ultimately stands for and will stand for a culture evil enough to destroy the very soul and heart of my country?" Keyes asked rhetorically. "I will not make a false gesture."(more)
Interesting that he fancies himself a Democrat after uncritically man-crushing on some of the worst slimeballs ever to come to power for much of th last two decades while terrifying women everywhere, I wouldn't expect much help from the netroots, Matthews. We hate you Matthews.
Even If Matthews makes it through a primary, I would be surprised if Specter, despite his illness, doesn't beat him worse than Obama beat Keyes.
By the way, I'm no fan of Specter's, but it's sad news to hear that his cancer's returned.
UPDATE: Bob Barr may run for President as the nominee of the Libertarian Party, a potentially disastrous development for John McCain, which is something I think the principled conservative Barr relishes.
