Get it Together Stretch--You Gotta At Least Quadruple Tucker

It's amazing the fun things that get buried in articles. Take this gem from Felix Gillette's seek and destroy mission on David Gregory's mediocre Race for the White House that was buried twenty paragraphs in.
From The New York Observer:
Halfway through his stint at the 6 p.m. hour on MSNBC, Mr. Gregory’s numbers are solid but not remarkable. For the second quarter of 2008 (from late March to late June), Race for the White House averaged roughly 526,000 total viewers and 161,000 in the 25-54 demographic—roughly twice the audience that Tucker Carlson averaged during the second quarter of 2007.Oh shit! Felix Gillette just asked Tucker Carlson how his ass tastes.
Twice Tucker is a form of damnation by faint praise.

And yes, the show sucks. Yes. We can all see that. It's on cable news. Hello. But let's get real about the expectations. On MSNBC, doubling the audience does make you a winner no mater how flat the trends or no matter how bad Tucker Carlson blows, which is a lot. I agree that the show doesn't play to Gregory's strengths, but it's not Gregory's fault. If NBC decides to stay within their talent pool Gregory certainly deserves a chance to moderate Meet the Press.
By the way something, on Meet the Press Tom Brokaw called Gregory's show The Road to the the White House. Ouch.
