Time to Go Home

by Jay Allbritton
Just moments ago, during a conversation with Democratic Representative James Clyburn, Chris Matthews made a very perspicacious observation about the tea-people's overreaction to the passage health care reform.
You're getting language from Bill McCollum, a former member member [of Congress] now running for Governor of Florida. He's referring to the health care bill you just helped to get passed as an invasion of the sovereignty of Florida. They're using secessionist language. I saw the Gadsden flag from South Carolina flying over the balcony of the Capitol being waved by members, the Gadsden flag was the don't tread on me flag of the Republic we used to fight the British. They are treating our central government in Washington as the enemy. As if it's a foreign government.
He went on to say, "This is real symbolism of a, uh, almost mutiny." Well, there's a whole lot of ugliness out there this week and it's just getting warmed up. What comes next could very well be disastrous. Obviously, I hope that I'm wrong. But the way this country works is that when the process plays out, the losers yield and come back later.

Wanna see what it looks like?

Oh, how the uber-patriots have flip flopped. First your a traitor for not wearing a flag pin, now you're a traitor if you do wear one.

I say don't let the door hit them in the ass on the way out.

Word. Maybe the door should hit their ass, though. Not a crushing blow or anything, just a little bump.

The Tea Baggers in the St. Louis area are wratcheting up the hyperbole attack language also.

At a "party" outside Cong. Russ Carnahan's office the other day, they took on the Arab custom of throwing shoes at a pic of Carnahan then burned the pic.

Sad to say, it's only going to get worse. When you have Rush, Beck and others stirring the pot, then you have members of Congress standing outside on the day of the bill's passage waving the Gadsden flag at the protestors...well, it's gonna hit the flag soon.

Sweet jeebus, did I spell "ratcheting" with a "w"?

I'm so ashamed.

The Station Agent said...

Agents provocateurs, as the French say. And wratcheting should be correct, even though it's not. I got your back, Russ.
